How do I get to the Colorado School of Mines campus from Denver International Airport (DEN)? | BACK TO TOP

You can find a ride on our conference ride board , take the RTD (bus) for around $12 (takes about 2 to 2.5 hours), use other ground transportation, or rent a car and drive to Golden from the airport in about 45 minutes to over an hour, depending on traffic.

Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) Bus

For route, schedule, and fare information, call 1-800-366-7433 during the following hours:

6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Weekends and Holidays

There are many options for the bus, and the web site www.rtd-denver.com has a nifty trip planner to help you figure out the best route depending on the time. Please be aware that not all routes run all of the time, there is generally a Monday-Friday schedule, a Saturday schedule, and a Sunday/Holiday schedule. Times may be different depending on direction as well, so please check the web site and print out the schedules for any bus you plan to take. The SkyRide bus to and from DIA is $10 each way, or you can purchase a round trip ticket for $18. The SkyRide does not go directly to Golden, however, so you will need to take a local bus which costs $1.50 each way, and you can request a free transfer if you need more than one local route. Bus drivers to not give change, so be prepared with exact change. Students and Seniors generally pay half price ($5 for SkyRide, $0.75 for local).

What is the weather like in Golden? | BACK TO TOP

Golden is slightly higher elevation than Denver (about 5700 ft) and closer to the foothills, so it typically will be slightly cooler than Denver. Due to the high elevation, semiarid, mid-continental climate so close to a major mountain range, the weather is highly unpredictable and changes rapidly. Temperature in mid-July is typically in the 55-85 F range although highs can be in the 90s to 100s. Evening temperatures will usually be much cooler. July is very dry in Golden, and the sun will likely be intense. Although afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon, they are usually brief. Sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat are essential during the day, and a few warm layers for the cool evenings are also great to have. Click here for more weather information.

How shall I dress? | BACK TO TOP

Dress comfortably and casually for all events. Blue jeans and shorts are normal attire on a college campus.
